Portland Art Museum Commission — Fall 2025

This fall, the Portland Art Museum commissioned me to design and build two custom pieces for the new Mark Rothko Pavilion. It is a profound honor, as these works are the first pieces by a Malagasy woodworker to be created for and permanently used within the museum.

For this project, I crafted a low table with four integrated box seats and a rolling bookcase. Each piece was designed with an emphasis on precision miter joints, bold contrasts between dark and light woods, custom hand-made hardware, and woven solid-wood sliding door panels. The commission allowed me to bring together traditional Malagasy craftsmanship with contemporary design for one of the Northwest’s most iconic cultural spaces.
